Jerry Nadler leaves Trump impeachment trial to be with cancer-stricken wife

WASHINGTON — Home Judiciary Committee Chairman Rep. Jerry Nadler, one of the direct architects of Democrats’ impeachment case against President Donald Trump, announced Friday that he would not be existing for the last phase of Trump’s Senate trial.

“I am sorry to not be able to remain in Washington for the conclusion of the Senate impeachment trial but I require to be property with my wife at this time,” Nadler wrote in a tweet Friday. “We have quite a few selections to make as a household. I have just about every faith in my colleagues and hope the Senate will do what is ideal.”

Much less than a 7 days earlier, Nadler, D-N.Y., issued a statement describing that his wife experienced been diagnosed with pancreatic cancer in December.

“She has gone through surgical procedures and is using further actions to address the unfold of the cancer,” Nadler stated on Jan. 26. “On Monday, I will be in New York with her to fulfill with doctors, establish a route ahead, and get started her procedure. I am sorry to skip some of the Senate Impeachment Demo, which is of crucial great importance to our democracy. I prepare to return to Washington late Monday and value the aid of my colleagues and employees as I get this time to be with my wife and get started the long battle against her cancer.”

Nadler, along with Home Intelligence Chairman Adam Schiff, D-Calif., has led the impeachment professionals as they laid out their case in the Senate for Trump’s conviction and removing from business.

He offered the Democrats’ closing statement in the proceedings Thursday evening, hours ahead of the Senate was expected to vote on regardless of whether to subpoena new witnesses and documents in the trial.
